Ohiwa Harbour

We had some very heavy rain in Ohope very early this morning at about 1.15 am. This caused some flooding and made the news, so I ventured out to get some images. All the flooding had subsided but I got this images of some very dark and threatening clouds over Ohiwa Harbour looking back towards Ohope I sent them off to TVNZ and wonder if they will use them tonight on the news. TVNZ seem to screen those fluffy landscapes etc after the weather and as this is a weather story I thought they maybe interested.

White Pointer Fishing Competition

I had the opportunity to go up to Waihau Bay on the East Coast of New Zealand early the other morning to shoot some images of a fishing competition from a helicopter. So the weather was marginal with pretty gusty winds but we managed to get up in the air. The first images are from the heli on the way up and on the ground as we were waiting for all the boats to launch. It was the first time I had shoot out of a heli so a big learning curve. Everything happened very quickly.
The fishermen were all very keen to get out and catch "the big one" so after a quick 5-10 min photo opportunity they were off and gone. Great experience love to do it again.

R.O.A

These images were taken at a training on Wednesday night. Once again low light unfortunately chose my shutter speed for me. These images were taken at 1600 ISO. I added a little film grain in photoshop after changing them to greyscale.

Below are some images I took today of a Kayaking event on the Kawerau River which is in the North Island of New Zealand. I only had about 45 mins to capture these images and as this was my first ever kayaking event firstly the most important aspect was to work out the rules and regulations for the event.

I am pretty happy with this attempt at kayaking. The exposure was a bit tricky with all the white water around. I was amazed how close I could actually get to the competitors and ended using my 70 mm - 200 mm f2.8.

It was an enjoyable process and hopefully I can do more in the future.

http://nymag.com/nymag/critics/restaurants/archive/?f=rest-sub-reviews
So I am thinking about starting to do a Restaurant Review for the local newspaper I work for. Although this is a small town off the top of my head I came up with at least 20 places I could review. There is also the option of visiting the restaurants in the small surrounding townships as well.

I will attempt a trial review next week and also get some photographs of the food I ate and then approach the Editor and see what his reaction is. My background as a chef and also being photographer will obviously help but I know i have a little work to do on my writing. I have been reading up a little on reviews etc and have found this site which give some obvious but good tips.
